THE WORK
OF THE MASTER POTTER
1 - Clay
extracted from the ground
·
Genesis 2:7 Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He
breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a
living person.
·
Isaiah 64:8 And yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand.
·
Remember! The Potter sees
the finished product even in the unrefined lump of clay.
2 - Clay
prepared for forming
·
2 Timothy 3:14-17 But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught.
You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. You
have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you
the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. All
Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make
us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and
teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to
do every good work.
3 - Clay
shaped and formed on the Potter's wheel
·
Isaiah 45:9-10 “What sorrow awaits those who argue with their Creator. Does a clay pot argue with its maker? Does the clay dispute with the one who shapes
it, saying, ‘Stop, you’re doing it wrong!’ Does the pot exclaim, ‘How clumsy
can you be?’ How terrible it would be if
a newborn baby said to its father, ‘Why was I born?’ or if it said to its
mother, ‘Why did you make me this way?’”
·
Psalm 139:13-16 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me
together in my mother’s womb. Thank you
for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter
seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your
book. Every moment was laid out before a
single day had passed.
4 - Clay
baked in the fire
·
Isaiah 43:2 When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go
through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the
fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.
·
Isaiah 49:13-16a Sing for joy, O heavens!
Rejoice, O earth! Burst into
song, O mountains! For the LORD has
comforted his people and will have compassion on them in their suffering. Yet Jerusalem says, “The LORD has deserted
us; the Lord has forgotten us.” “Never!
Can a mother forget her nursing child?
Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not
forget you! See, I have written your
name on the palms of my hands."

God, the
Master Potter, can redeem and restore even the broken of pottery
·
Proverbs 18:21 The tongue can bring death or life…
·
Isaiah 29:16 How foolish can you be? He
is the Potter, and he is certainly greater than you, the clay! Should the created thing say of the one who
made it, “He didn’t make me”? Does a jar
ever say, “The potter who made me is stupid”?
·
Romans 9:20-21 Who are you, a mere human being, to argue with God? Should the
thing that was created say to the one who created it, “Why have you made me
like this?” When a potter makes jars out
of clay, doesn’t he have a right to use the same lump of clay to make one jar
for decoration and another to throw garbage into?
·
2 Corinthians 4:7 We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are
like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that
our great power is from God, not from ourselves.
·
Jeremiah 18:1-6 The Lord gave another message to Jeremiah. He said, “Go down
to the potter’s shop, and I will speak to you there.” So I did as he told me and found the potter
working at his wheel. But the jar he was
making did not turn out as he had hoped, so he crushed it into a lump of clay
again and started over. Then the Lord
gave me this message: “O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to
his clay? As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand."
Proverbs
31:10-12, Who can
find a virtuous and capable wife? She is
more precious than rubies. Her husband
can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. She brings him good, not harm, all the days
of her life. … Her children stand and
bless her. Her husband praises her:
“There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them
all!” Charm is deceptive, and beauty
does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.
