Matthew 6:10 May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in
heaven.
Luke 19:28-44 After telling this story, Jesus went on
toward Jerusalem, walking ahead of his disciples. As he came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany
on the Mount of Olives, he sent two disciples ahead. “Go into that village over there,” he told
them. “As you enter it, you will see a young donkey tied there that no one has
ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.
If anyone asks, ‘Why are you untying that colt?’ just say, ‘The Lord
needs it.’”
So they
went and found the colt, just as Jesus had said. And sure enough, as they were
untying it, the owners asked them, “Why are you untying that colt?”
And the
disciples simply replied, “The Lord needs it.” So they brought the colt to
Jesus and threw their garments over it for him to ride on.
As he
rode along, the crowds spread out their garments on the road ahead of him. When
he reached the place where the road started down the Mount of Olives, all of
his followers began to shout and sing as they walked along, praising God for
all the wonderful miracles they had seen.
“Blessings
on the King who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven, and glory in highest heaven!” But some of the Pharisees
among the crowd said, “Teacher, rebuke your followers for saying things like
that!”
He
replied, “If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into
cheers!”
But as he
came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead, he began to weep. “How I wish
today that you of all people would understand the way to peace. But now it is
too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes. Before long your enemies will
build ramparts against your walls and encircle you and close in on you from
every side. They will crush you into the ground, and your children with you.
Your enemies will not leave a single stone in place, because you did not
recognize it when God visited you.”
Luke 22:41-44 He walked away, about a stone’s throw, and
knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of
suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Then an
angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him. He prayed more fervently, and
he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great
drops of blood.
1 Peter 4:1-8 So then,
since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same
attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you have suffered
physically for Christ, you have finished with sin. You won’t spend the rest of
your lives chasing your own desires, but you will be anxious to do the will of
God. You have had enough in the past of
the evil things that godless people enjoy—their immorality and lust, their
feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols.
Of
course, your former friends are surprised when you no longer plunge into the
flood of wild and destructive things they do. So they slander you. But remember that they will have to face God,
who stands ready to judge everyone, both the living and the dead. That is why the Good News was preached to
those who are now dead—so although they were destined to die like all people,
they now live forever with God in the Spirit.
The end
of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your
prayers. Most important of all, continue
to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.
John 6:35-40 Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life.
Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will
never be thirsty. But you haven’t believed in me even though you have seen me.
However, those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject
them. For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not
to do my own will. And this is the will of God, that I should not lose even one
of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them up at the last day.
For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in him should
have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day.”
John 4:32-38 But Jesus replied, “I have a kind of food
you know nothing about.”
“Did
someone bring him food while we were gone?” the disciples asked each other.
Then
Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me,
and from finishing his work. You know the saying, ‘Four months between planting
and harvest.’ But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe
for harvest. The harvesters are paid good wages, and the fruit they harvest is
people brought to eternal life. What joy awaits both the planter and the
harvester alike! You know the saying, ‘One plants and another harvests.’ And
it’s true. I sent you to harvest where you didn’t plant; others had already
done the work, and now you will get to gather the harvest.”
